Ngorongoro Crater
There are few places besides the Ngorongoro Crater that have wildlife densities and variety on this level and it is not unusual to see the Big Five in one day. The crater is home to many species of wild game and birds. With the exception of giraffe, impala and topi, almost every species of African plains mammal lives in the crater, along with the densest population of predators in Africa. Views from the rim of the crater are sensational, looking out on the crater floor as grassland blends into swamps, lakes, rivers, woodland and mountains. Though wildlife viewing is excellent in the crater throughout the year, as one of the world's most renowned natural wonders, the Ngorongoro Crater does get very busy with other tourists.
Best time to go: Wildlife viewing inside the Ngorongoro Crater is very good at all times.
