Randilen Wildlife Management Area

Randilen is a community-owned Wildlife Management Area (WMA). It lies outside of Tarangire National Park on the north-eastern boundary and is a vital dispersal area for the elephants that migrate from Tarangire. It is also a grazing territory for many ungulates (wildebeests, zebras, gazelles, elands, and oryxes) during the dry season. Other species within the area include greater kudu, wild dog and the rare lion. The Acacia woodland habitat and plains with fever-tree groves also contain extraordinary birdlife. Being a WMA, guided walks are permitted to get much more intimately connected to this beautiful slice of Tanzanian wilderness. This region is also home for the Maasai pastoralists. In fact, your guide will likely be from the local community, allowing them to show you what this ecosystem holds in much more depth.

Best time to go: Randilen WMA can be visited throughout the year, however with long rains during April and May walking may be impeded.
